Kick off Your New Year with Raleigh Little Theatre!

New classes for youth and adults begin this month Our Middle School Ensemble: Improvisation class, taught by Amy Pridgen

Our Middle School Ensemble: Improvisation class, taught by Amy Pridgen

Hello everyone! I hope you found some rest and some joy this holiday season, whatever shape it took for you and your family. And happy new year!

One of the most important takeaways from the challenges of 2020 was to prioritize connection with others. RLT’s dedicated and innovative teaching artists have managed to do exactly that as we continue to offer our classes in the virtual space since April 2020.

Virtual learning has kept us connected safely for now, and we are looking forward to restarting in person classes in March 2021. Though plans can change swiftly these days, we are hopeful about this current plan. Raleigh Little Theatre has taken several steps towards reopening the building to audiences at the end of 2020 and we are looking forward to more in person experiences in 2021, while prioritizing health and safety of our community. You can read more about our reopening procedures here on our website

In the meantime, our upcoming session of classes, beginning January 25, will remain virtual. To keep things fresh, we are offering several new classes and topics for students to explore with us. I hope you can join us for a weekly class this winter!

Virtual Classes for Youth

We invite you to join us for weekly creativity and collaboration! Registration is open for weekly classes for age 4 through high school, including:

Move your body each week in Story Ballet (PK-K) as students explore storytelling through the art of ballet or through Creative Movement (Gr K-2): Under the Sea!

Create your own puppets and tell original stories in Puppetry Skills (Gr 3-5). This class includes craft materials that you’ll pick up at RLT the week before class begins. Note: Registration for this class closes Jan 15 to ensure supply availability.

Middle school students have two topics to choose from next session: strengthen your foundation and confidence as an actor in Fundamentals of Acting or learn the basics of how to accurately apply an accent or dialect to your role in Accents and Dialects. Take one - or both!

All youth classes are open to all experience levels and abilities. A reminder that we also offer scholarship opportunities if cost is a barrier for you or someone you know. Click here to view our full class catalog.

Virtual Classes for Adults

Raleigh Little Theatre has plenty of opportunities for adults to join in the collaborative, virtual learning as well with new classes for adults also beginning this month. Choose from the following classes:

  • Beginning Actor’s Studio with Barbette Hunter - This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique.
  • Theatre Training for Business Professionals with David Henderson - Ths class will help participants develop the techniques employed by performers to improve their confidence in putting their best self forward when giving a presentation, making a sale, or leading a meeting.
  • FUNdamentals of Improv with Amy Pridgen - Need more creativity, spontaneity, laughter and fun in your life? Then it’s time to get out of your head and join this basic improv class!
  • Dialects Workshop Series with Rebecca Bossen - Dialects are an essential part of any actor's toolkit, and RLT is offering a series of monthly workshops to dive into specific dialects. $25 for each 2 hour session - take one, two, three or all four workshops and grow your skill set. The first workshop is coming up on February 7!

All of these classes are open to all experience levels, and would be great starting places for anyone new to acting or curious about how theatre skills apply to other areas of life! View all of our upcoming adult class offerings on our registration website.

As always, feel free to contact us at education@raleighlittletheatre.org with any questions about choosing a class or what to expect.
