New classes for youth and adults in the new year

Hello everyone! We hope this email finds you and your family safe and well. One of the many lessons we’ve learned in 2020 is the value of having something to look forward to. We want every student to have a creative, welcoming experience to look forward to each week, and we are excited to offer some new classes in the new year that continue this commitment. Read on to learn about what we have in store at the top of 2021 in the education program!

Virtual Classes for Youth

We invite you to join us for weekly creativity and collaboration! Registration is open for weekly classes for age 4 through high school, with classes after school and on Saturdays.

Classes for elementary students use the body, voice and imagination to stretch those acting skills in developmentally relevant ways. We have new virtual classes and topics for all age groups - here’s some of what you can look forward to in the new year:

Our youngest actors will get moving in Story Ballet (PK-K) as they explore storytelling through the art of ballet while Creative Movement for K-2nd grade goes under the sea! 3rd-5th graders will create unique characters in our new Puppetry Skills class. And 1st-3rd graders can look forward to another adventure in our popular Drama Quest class - this time taking place at wizarding school!

Middle school students have two topics to choose from next session: Fundamentals of Acting and Accents and Dialects. We also have two new offerings coming up for high school students - a six-week virtual class in Sketch Comedy, that will have students writing, performing, and laughing together as they learn the ins and outs of comedy. The second class is a semester-long hybrid class on Saturdays - Teen Theatre Lab. In this 12 week class, students will work together to devise a performance and explore collaborative writing, movement and storytelling. The class meets virtually for the first 6 weeks and then in person at RLT for the remaining 6 weeks to put together a live, socially distanced performance.

All youth classes are open to all experience levels and abilities. A reminder that we also offer scholarship opportunities if cost is a barrier for you or someone you know.

Virtual Classes for Adults

Raleigh Little Theatre has plenty of opportunities for adults to join in the collaborative, virtual learning as well with new classes for adults also beginning in January. Choose from the following classes:

  • Beginning Actor’s Studio with Barbette Hunter - This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique! Students will participate in lively theatre games and exercises designed to free up the voice and body, stimulate creativity, promote self-confidence, and teach the building blocks of acting.
  • Theatrical Training for Business Professionals with David Henderson - Ths class will help participants develop the techniques employed by performers to improve their confidence in putting their best self forward when giving a presentation, making a sale, or leading a meeting.
  • FUNdamentals of Improv with Amy Pridgen - Need more creativity, spontaneity, laughter and fun in your life? Want to improve your one-on-one interactions by sharpening your listening skills? Then it’s time to get out of your head and join this basic improv class!
  • Dialects Workshop Series with Rebecca Bossen - Dialects are an essential part of any actor's toolkit, and RLT is offering a series of monthly workshops to dive into specific dialects. $25 for each 2 hour session - take one, two, three or all four workshops and grow your skill set!

All of these classes are open to all experience levels, and would be great starting places for anyone new to acting or curious about how theatre skills apply to other areas of life! View all of our upcoming adult class offerings on our registration website.
