Musicals return to RLT this weekend with “The Last Five Years”

Open to read more about the show, Divas!, and so much more!

The Last Five Years opens Friday

Live music officially returns to RLT this weekend with one of WRAL’s top events to check out this April: The Last Five Years!

The Last Five Years is an intimate window into a couple’s doomed marriage. Cathy (Faith Jones), a struggling actress, and Jamie (John Langley), a budding novelist on the brink of wild success, are 20-somethings in New York who meet, fall in love, marry, and divorce over the span of five years. Cathy tells the story from the end of their marriage; Jamie begins from when they first meet. As the musical unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relationship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only once, in the middle, at their wedding.

This show will be performed in the style of a concert, supported by five musicians from the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, to limited socially distanced audiences in RLT’s outdoor Stephenson Amphitheatre. Performances take place Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 6:00pm, April 9-18. Purchase tickets here!

Want to learn more about the production? Check out this BroadwayWorld article and tune in to WHUP’s Lights Up tonight (April 7) at 5:45pm to hear Patrick Torres (Director) and Faith Jones (“Cathy”) discuss the process of putting together and rehearsing for this unique concert event!

And don’t worry, we’re keeping an eye on the weather forecast and will do everything we can to make sure audiences get to safely see the show! Read our weather cancellation policy on the show page on our website.

Please note: masks are required for all RLT audience members aged five and up. Thank you for doing your part to keep the community safe - we’ll be on the other side of all this soon!

Welcome Mackenzie!

We are happy to introduce Mackenzie Barker, RLT’s new Development and Events Coordinator! Here is a little bit about the newest member of our staff, in her own words:

“I am a Professional Ponder-er, Plant Enthusiast and Bibliophile all rolled into one! I graduated from NC State in 2020 with my Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies. In short, my degree combined thinking + empathy to create better designed (any)things. I take pride in how my degree taught me to think critically.

As a Clinton NC, native (with most anything interesting being an hour away), I had a lot of hobbies growing up to keep me busy. I grew up loving the arts and took many visual arts courses, dance lessons, and even did a few plays. To me, the most captivating thing about the arts is how they can serve as a voice for others - it crosses boundaries words simply cannot.”
