Welcome back to RLT’s Sutton Theatre!

“The Velocity of Autumn” opens this weekend + so much more!

The Velocity of Autumn opens tomorrow!

We are thrilled to reopen the doors to our Cantey V. Sutton Theatre this weekend for The Velocity of Autumn! The play centers around 80-year-old Alexandra (played by Mary K. Rowland) and her estranged son Chris (Landon Henry) and is a wickedly funny and wonderfully touching discovery of the fragility and ferocity of life.

Here are a few ways to learn more about our production:

The Velocity of Autumn runs Thursdays-Sundays September 17 - October 3. Tickets for opening weekend are close to selling out, so don’t wait to buy! Call the box office at 919-821-3111 or purchase tickets on our website now.

Safety precautions: Since this is our first show back inside our Sutton Theatre in almost a year, we are limiting capacity to 100 people (about one-third of our total capacity), blocking off rows to provide distance between groups, and requiring masks for all guests. Our goal is to provide you with the safest environment possible so you can relax and enjoy the show! Learn more about our COVID safety procedures here.

Our costume sale is back!

Surprise! We just couldn’t wait one more year, so we are bringing the costume sale back this fall. Join us on Saturday, October 9, from 10am-1pm in the main parking lot to score some great deals on vintage and modern costume pieces and accessories. Advance registration is not required this year, but please do wear a mask while you shop! Learn more about the costume sale on our website.

Fun for the little ones!

Fall classes kicked off this week, and we are already having so much fun! If you don’t want to wait until the next session of classes rolls around in November, we are offering a special mini-session of our popular Story Drama Together class on Saturday mornings in October!

Children aged 2-4 and their caregivers explore and act out stories in this creative drama class that they attend together that supports social and motor skills. Explore a new story each week through drama, movement and play! This class meets in RLT’s outdoor Stephenson Amphitheatre on Saturday mornings for three weeks starting October 9. Register here!

Theatre Raleigh presents Peace of Clay

Peach of Clay poster Theatre Raleigh presents a new work by two of the region's most exciting playwrights - Mike Wiley and Howard L. Craft - that explores the pressures, hopes, and aspirations of a young man coming of age in a southern city in the 1980s.

Raised by a devoted mother in the projects, the main character tries to pursue his path in the midst of obstacles large and small and discovers his own power and strength. The play is a meditation on an African-American lower-working-class family in pursuit of an American dream that always seems to exist just beyond their grasp.

Peace of Clay runs September 22 - October 3 at Theatre Raleigh. Click here for tickets!
